dancED Movement Project started in Edmonton as a one-day volunteer commitment for professional dancers Andrea Gregorio and Krista Deady to teach hip-hop dance to a Grade 6 class. The students were immediately hooked and had the opportunity to show off their new dance routine to the whole school at an assembly. Positive feedback from teachers, parents and students prompted the principal to immediately secure Andrea and Krista for the following year to face the challenge of working with the entire school of nearly 400 students.

Andrea and Krista returned the next year, choreographing original hip-hop dances for all students from kindergarten to Grade 6 during a one-week residency. The program culminated with another school-wide performance that packed the gymnasium to standing room only. Once again, Andrea and Krista were booked a year in advance due to the enthusiastic requests of students, parents and teachers alike.

Word quickly spread to other Edmonton schools about Andrea and Krista’s unique artist-in-residence program and the duo soon discovered that this side project could turn into the rewarding career in the arts they’ve always wanted.

Year after year, Andrea and Krista are honoured to reach even more schools, unleashing students’ creative potential with their infectious passion for dance and performance.
